TACTICAL URBANISM
"Tactical Urbanism" is a growing movement aimed at improving urban neighborhoods and shared spaces via small scale, temporary change. As a member of the NC AIA "Activate" Committee, Tina Govan organized a parking lot takeover to demonstrate some Tactical Urbanism ideas and the multi-use potential of our car lots.
Yoga, skateboarding, ping pong, mobile planters, and street furniture-making workshops all transformed this lot into a lively plaza of activity.
Skilled neighbors were invited to build chairs and tables from discarded pallets. We then donated this street furniture to businesses in the nearby Person St. Business District, creating places to stop and sit along the street.
