POP-UP PARKLET
Wine Authorities asked Tina Govan to create Raleigh's first pop-up parklet for a small event they were hosting. Though notice was short, we jumped on it. We showed up with planters, outdoor rugs, and bamboo screens in the back of our pick up truck.
In less than an hour, a parking space became a place to hang out, and soon people were stopping by, mixing and mingling.
It proved to us the power of creating temporary places in a light, quick, cheap way. And it served as another example of how much of our urban land that is devoted exclusively to cars could be shared and put to better use.
