PERSON STREET MARKET
The Person Street Market all started with a blog post on this website. Who would have thought that an empty parking lot could blossom with such life? State government workers park here during the week, but it sat unused on weekends. The Person Street Market is testimony to what is possible.
Located in the middle of Raleigh’s walkable downtown neighborhoods, across from the Governor’s mansion, this precious urban real estate was being wasted. It was a missing tooth in the fabric of our neighborhood.
The Person Street Market changes “parking lots to people spots,” making our city more humane. It becomes a place of human connection, with neighbors, children, dogs, local farmers, food trucks, musicians, dancers and more coming together. The transformation is remarkable.
It is a call to look at our cities and towns and think about ways in which we can share space, to see our public spaces as flexible, used differently at different times of day or year. By seeing our cities through this lens, we are working to make where we live more alive and humane. Let us know if you know of a space that could transform!
