OUTDOOR LEARNING

Nowhere is the inside/outside connection more important than in schools and childcare centers. The outside is just another kind of classroom, one that can be tapped for teaching nearly any subject. Merging indoor and outdoor classrooms is a powerful way of engaging children, enabling play and learning to happen simultaneously, and educating children to be caring stewards of the environment.

Tina was happy to contribute to improving the campus of Raleigh’s Conn Elementary School by proposing design ideas for their underused courtyard and helping design and install a fish pond and nearby butterfly garden. It enabled the first step the school took towards integrating outdoor learning into their curriculum.
